It’s true. ‘The Dark Destroyer’ Nigel Benn is set make an astonishing comeback at age 55.

Unsurprisingly the British Boxing Board of Control has refused him a license but that is not going to stop him stepping into the ring again. The British and Irish Boxing Authority have decided Benn can fight under their banner.

The BBBoC’s general secretary Robert Smith told the Daily Telegraph : “We were approached by Nigel Benn a few months ago inquiring whether we would grant him a licence, but he was told that we would not consider it, given his age and how long he has been away from the sport. We will not be licensing this event; it will not be under our jurisdiction”

Benn has not fought for 23 years where he lost against Steve Collins in his final bout before retiring.

Benn held a press conference Thursday where he confirmed his opponent as Sakio Bika. The fight will take place November 23 at Resorts World Arena in Birmingham.

It is unknown whether this is a one off from Benn or if he has long-term goals in the sport. Maybe like fictional character Rocky Balboa in the film of the same name, he “still has some stuff in the basement”.
