On the undercard of the Josh Warrington v Lee Selby world title contest at Elland Road, Leeds, Mason Cartwright, and Darren Tetley faced off for the vacant WBO European Welterweight title in a scheduled 10 round fight.
A thrilling contest saw Cartwright take an early lead in the fight, however, Tetley found a way back into the fight as Cartwright slowed down, Tetley dropped Cartwright in the 8th round and also inflicted a cut on the left side of Cartwright’s lip.
Following a doctor’s inspection, the fight was waved off handing Tetley a 9th round TKO victory and sending Cartwright to the hospital to receive stitches as you can see from the boxer’s updates on Twitter below.
If it was up to me I would have faught the 10th round all day, show my boxing ability I’ll be back @frankwarren_tv @boxnationtv ✌🏻 pic.twitter.com/aaEAA7OAmQ

As do many fighters Cartwright stated he wanted to continue “If it was up to me I would have faught (sic) the 10th round all day”. However, given the injury, it was probably a wise decision by the ringside doctor.
Thankfully Cartwright has been treated and stitched up, as the boxer gave an update following his treatment at the hospital.

A Cartwright v Tetley rematch would certainly be welcomed down the line once Cartwright is fully recovered as both boxers seemed to gel for a very entertaining contest.
