David Price is set to face Russian Alexander Povetkin on the undercard of the heavyweight unification clash between Anthony Joshua and Joseph Parker at the Principality Stadium, Cardiff on March 31st.

Povetkin is currently ranked number one mandatory challenger with the WBA for Joshua’s WBA world heavyweight belt, therefore if Price were to win he would catapult himself into number one position with the WBA and mandatory challenger to Joshua, providing Joshua defeats Parker on March 31st.

Matchroom sports promoter Eddie Hearn seems to think the fight will be announced this week, with both fighters agreeing to terms for the bout.

“We are nearly there, Price has agreed, Povetkin has agreed. We are hopeful the fight will be announced this week, it is a really interesting fight in the heavyweight mix”

“Of course you make Povetkin a big favourite but Price can really punch if can knock out Povetkin, he catapults himself to number one with the WBA, it would be quite a story” Hearn stated.

Price’s career looked all but over following his devastating defeat to Christian Hammer early in 2017 with many on social media calling for the fighter to retire from the sport for his own safety.

However, Price came back later in the year to record a 6 round win over Kamil Sokolowski and the heavyweight does not appear to be done with boxing yet as he continues to pursue his ambition of becoming heavyweight champion

Update: David Price Vs Alexander Povetkin has now been officially announced by Matchroom Sports for March 31st on the Anthony Joshua Vs Joseph Parker undercard at the Principality Stadium, Cardiff.
