In arguably the biggest night of David Price’s career, he took a huge roll of dice to step up to face the dangerous Russian Alexander Povetkin in an attempt to catapult himself into the heavyweight title mix.

In the first round Povetkin began working away at the body, while Price reluctant to let his hands go finally landed a right hand at the end of the round which appeared to wobble Povetkin momentarily.

In the second round Povetkin continues to work away with Price trying to keep him on the end of his jab, in the third round the fight sprung into life as Povetkin landed a straight right hand down the middle which sent Price down on his back, Price clearly frustrated with himself got back up and somehow managed to regain his legs.

In a sensational turnaround Price caught Povetkin with a sweet left hook at the end of the thrid which sent Povetkin flying across the ring with the corner keeping him up and on his feet, the referee gave the Russian a count.

In the 4th round both fighters clearly feeling the effects of the damage they had suffered in the previous looked dazed and tentative, in the 5th round Povetkin landed a right hand which looked to have almost knocked Price out on his feet, Price unable to defend himself took a free left hook shot from Povetkin which sent Price down and knocked out, the referee quickly waved off the contest. Povetkin the winner by TKO in the fifth round.

Povetkin now becames the mandatory to Anthony Joshua’s WBA belt.
