As expected Anthony Joshua’s first test of the year will be a heavyweight unification clash with New Zealand’s Joshua Parker, while it had been on cards for some time the fight was finally announced officially today, Sunday, January 14th by promoters Matchroom Sports, Duco Events and the fighters themselves.

The venue will once again be the 74,500 capacity of the Principality Stadium in Cardiff and the event will mark the first time two reigning heavyweight world champions have fought on British soil.

The fight will be broadcast live on Sky Sports Box Office and with the WBA, IBF, WBO and IBO world heavyweight titles on the line the fight should generate some significant interest.

With Deontay Wilder defending his WBC world heavyweight against Luis Ortiz on March 3rd, the month of March is set to be an important month for the future of the heavyweight division, the winners of each bout could go on to become the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world in their next fight, a first since Lennox Lewis in 2000.
