Following Jorge Linares victory against Mercito Gesta last weekend, talks have already begun for a mouthwatering match-up with Vasyl Lomachenko at 135 lbs

According to Lomachenko’s promoter Bob Arum of Top Rank, talks regarding the fight have been ongoing for the last month between himself and Linares promoters, Japanese firm Teiken Promotions

“It’s been worked on for the next fight, we want to make sure Linares is ok and ready to go, he had a little cut and hurt his hand a little (against Gesta), so we need to make sure he is fine, depending on how he feels, the fight will be either April 28 or May 12. Linares is a tremendous fighter. He’s a guy with an excellent resume and a good name” Arum.

Linares who is co-promoted by Teiken Promotions and Golden Boy Promotions is currently WBA world lightweight champion and if the fight goes ahead it is likely he will go in as defending champion, while Vasyl Lomachenko moves up in weight to attempt to become a three weight world champion in just 12 professional contests, an incredible feat if achieved.

Oscar De La Hoya of Golden Boy Promotions also stated after Linares defeated Gesta.

“We’re ready, we are ready, it’s the fight to make, so we must make it. For 2018 our goal is to make the best fights and this is one of them, out of many. Bob Arum give me a call”

It seems as though it is a fight that will happen, both fighters have publicly stated they want the fight, Linares even tweeted Lomachenko before his fight with Gesta, calling him out once business had been attended to with Gesta.

With both fighters highly skilled operators it is a matchup that will certainly attract the attention of boxing fans worldwide.
