Oscar Valdez has defeated Scott Quigg by unanimous decision at the StubHub Center, Carson, California tonight with scorecards of 117-111, 117-111 and 118-110 returned by the three judges.

There had been some controversy surrounding the fight as Quigg managed to miss weight by 2.6 lbs, costing him 20% of his purse and the chance to become a two-weight world champion.

Team Valdez had accused Quigg of coming in overweight as a tactical ploy, however, it was all futile in the end as Valdez outboxed Quigg in a bloody battle that saw both men sustain facial damage, Quigg, in particular, looked to sustain a broken nose.

Quigg showed his toughness as he rallied late in the fight, appearing to momentarily stun Valdez on a couple of occasions, however, the Mexican remained composed to seal a clear victory to retain his WBO featherweight title.
