It was a matchup that raised a few eyebrows when it was first announced as Canelo stepped up to super middleweight for the first time in his career to take on WBA regular champion Rocky Fielding at Madison Square Garden, New York.
Despite the step up in weight for Canelo, in terms of levels, this was not expected to be a competitive contest, Rocky Fielding may well have already overachieved in his career by picking up the WBA regular world title, which of course hardcore boxing fans do not associate as a real world title, Callum Smith holds the accolade as true WBA world title holder.
Previous to this Fielding had really been flirting around the domestic scene in the UK as British and Commonwealth titleholder, last night he stepped into the ring with an elite fighter in Canelo Alvarez, and the difference in levels showed as Alvarez made quick work of Fielding as the highlights show below;

What next for Canelo remains to be seen, a showdown with David Lemieux next seems to be making the rounds at the moment, however, most will want to see a trilogy with Gennady Golovkin at middleweight before Triple G becomes too aged to make a contest of it.
One thing is for sure Canelo is more likely to step back down to middleweight for his next contest then remain at 168 lbs.
